JACQUES FATH

JACQUES FATH GREEN WATER, Eau de Toilette pour homme, re-designed in 2008 GREEN WATER
Eau de Toilette pour homme
re-designed in 2008

In 2008 the classical Green Water by Jacques Fath is presented in a re-design that bases on a simple idea: modernizing while remaining loyal to the origins which go back to 1946.

Think of a beautiful clear stream breaking its way through the rocks; surrounded by a green and luxuriant nature.

The fragrance is one the highest proportioned in natural ingredients among all fragrances: two third of the components are made of real flowers and plants which is extremely rare in the industry.

It was a challenge for the perfumers to respect the historical components of Green Water and in the same time to follow the regulations of the IFRA, the International Fragrance Regulators Association.

First launch in 1946

In 1946 the famous perfumer Vincent Roubert developed with the couturier Jacques Fath an elegant scent inspired by a man at ease, self assured and inclined to natural things. Since this time Green Water is like very few brands such as “Eau Sauvage de Dior” and “Caron pour Homme” a men's fragrance that has crossed through seasons and fashions.

This fragrance is not made for fashion victims! The packing of Green Water changed only four times throughout the 62 years of existence of the brand by keeping the signature design: the square bottle, the green color and the round cap.

The Life of Jacques Fath JACQUES FATH GREEN WATER, Eau de Toilette pour homme, re-designed in 2008

Jacques Fath (1912-1954) was born in Maison-Lafitte, a town near Paris. His grandfather had been a couturier of Empress Eugenie in Victorian times. In 1937 Jacques Fath opened his salon in two very small rooms "so small that customers and mannequins alike spilled out into the courtyard".

Career - celebrities

His first collection was made of 20 garments. Soon he was one of the most promising designers. After the war in 1948 he contracted with the New York ready-to-wear manufacturer Joseph Halpert to design two collections every year of dresses and suits. Throughout his career he keeps a popular designer in America. Several wellknown couturiers have worked at Fath's salon such as Gerard Pipart, Herbert Kasper and Hubert de Givenchy (1945 to 1949). He dressed many of the most glamorous women of the 50's, such as Rita Hayworth in her movies (Gilda) and later he made her wedding dress and trousseau when she married the Agha Khan. Jacques Fath also dressed other Hollywood stars such as Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo ...

His way to style

Fath was famous for his hourglass shapes, plunging necklines, tiny waists and full skirts. His garments were created on soft lines with curving, simple and structured shapes. Fath introduced stockings with Chantilly lace tops. His Playboy-bunny look of 1950 is legendary: evening dresses showing nothing but skin and cleavage between a strapless décolletage and a wing-collared choker.

Fath worked directly with the fabric, draping it on the mannequin himself. His clothes are masterpieces in the display of movement. Diagonal lines, sometimes accented by buttons, cut across his suits and dresses. Angled collars and pockets, slanting or zigzagging skirts, bustles or fans jutting out from skintight dresses, tucks, tiers and knife sharp pleats all contributed to the kinetic quality of his clothes. He is also known as a superb and inventive colorist: in his collections you will find typical Fath-color-combinations of silvered amethyst, gray pin, pale green, ruby and red.

The future of Jacques Fath's vision

After his death his house closed from 1956 until the fashion group “Alliance designers” decided to bring back the spirit and vision of the label Jacques Fath in 2006.

To give you an impression of the value of this designer: the famous US specialty Store Neiman Marcus has gathered archives and some models of the artist and was auctioning the collection at the impressive figure of 3.5 million USD on occasion of the annual Christmas Book 2007 http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/sitelets/christmasbook/fantasy.jhtml?cid=OCBF7_NMO2206.
