Eau de toilette 'Tulipe Noire' by Atkinsons references Alexandre Dumas' historical novel

The new eau de toilette 'Tulipe Noire' by British perfumery label Atkinsons (founded in London in 1799) is so new that information about the scent is rare yet; it's announced to be available from May in Austria. Thanks to the short letter sent together with 'Tulipe Noire', the historical tracing route can be reconstructed. Atkinsons 'Tulipe Noire' is the new interpretation of a fragrance created in 1929 inspired by Alexandre Dumas' (père) historical novel from 1850 'La Tulipe Noire' about politics, love and a gardener's skill to create a black tulip. The English title of the book inspired also the name of Atkinsons' fragrance 'Black Tulip' from 1929. The name 'Black Tulip' for perfumes can be found from the 20ies (such as for a perfume created by Paul Poiret) up to nowadays.

The notes of the composition (sandalwood, cedar, bergamot,...) of the new interpretation 'Tulipe Noire' are listed already by Drogeriewarenzeitung.de where the scent is described as "pure veil" - a very fitting analysis of 'Tulipe Noire'. The light fragrance (eau de toilette) can be worn by women as well as men. It hasn't significant tendencies into the one or other direction. 'Tulipe Noire' appears elegantly discreet, fresh and warm at the same time; it cushions and awakens the senses. Parallels of the 'Tulipe Noire' composition to Dumas' historical novel (referring political times in 1672 in the Netherlands, many years after the so-called Tulip Mania, an economic bubble which ended 1637) could be drawn in an abstract way. The scent has the appeal of 'being realistic', it provides 'earthing', but in the same time, it also elevates lovely and clears the sight for navigating calmly through possible impetuosities of the day. Atkinsons 'Tulipe Noire' is a well balanced companion of the ones who live after the motto 'prepared for the worst, hoping for the best'.
