Olfactory memory notes by Karin Sawetz: The 'Ibiza' long lasting eau de toilette collection by Ramon Monegal
In summer last year, I was invited to a press meeting for the presentation of new perfumes. Such meetings are normally held with not more than around ten journalists in a relaxed atmosphere and last around one hour. On that day we met at an elegant salon at Hotel Park Hyatt Vienna. Men in the beauty media business are rare. Even at this press meeting the group was exclusively female. I can remember that some new scents were dedicated to men. Most of the fragrances which impressed me and that I've kept in my memory were officially unisex; even when some appeared like composed with a specific gender in mind. Such as Ramon Monegal's trilogy named 'Ibiza' consisting of three long lasting eaux de toilette. I can remember that one of the Ibiza scents evoked instantly associations with salt on skin - on male skin that was heated by the sun after the refreshing swim in the ocean. The scent with the name 'La Isla Blanca' (flacon on view on this page) makes think of this after swim situation at a beach with music and cocktails. It's composed on the base of white musk with notes of ginger and anise (pyramid). For my nose, La Isla Blanca is a very male scent despite it's officially unisex. Women who use it might be reminded of slipping into the beloved boyfriend's t-shirt that carries still the notes of a day of swimming and dancing with accords of a joyful night.
Ramon Monegal 'Ibiza. Flower Power' on the other hand is a more female scent. 'Café Del Mar' is the most unisex eau de toilette from the Ibiza collection. All of the fragrances have one in common: They are inspired by the Ibiza hippie era of the early 1970s and the lighthearted living at the Spanish island.
